the other day i stumbled upon an article in "paste" about nanowrimo and it made me kinda regret never finishing in 2005. on the other hand, it's probably better that i didn't. either way, i think i'm gonna take another stab at it in '07. hopefully k and ally and everyone will decide to give it another go, as well.

but yeah... we'll see how that pans out.

and i started watching "rome" in anticipation of the season two premiere in a few weeks. so far, so badass.

in other news, i just discovered this site, bibliophil.org, which works similar to dvd aficianado et. al. so i'm going to dig out all of my books and start using it. in addition, i'm going to make an effort to read a hell of a lot more next year... hopefully a nice mix of contemporary stuff with classics.

must reads in 07:
one hundred years of solitude
catch-22
some shakespeare... king lear?
lunar park
maybe infinite jest

we'll see.

seacrest out.

When you make a list of top albums or top movies do you rank them according to what you think is objectively best or according to what is subjectively your favorite?

Just wondering.

I'm going to start doing some light film journalism just for myself - mostly just reviews and things of that nature. It can be found at [info]make_you_care, if you're interested.

You can find my answer to the question above over there, as well as a short review of Volver.

I have walked the edge of the Abyss.
I have governed the unwilling.
I have witnessed countless empires break before me.
I have seen the most courageous soldiers fall away in fear.
[I was there with the Angel at the tomb]

I have seen your future.
And I have learned.

There will be no more Sadness. No more Anger. No more Envy.

I HAVE WON.

Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong: THIS is the way the world ends.

So, I was going to just post with pictures from now on, and I intend to keep doing so, but I had to take a small break to document my quandary. And the fact that this is the only problem I'm really concerned about these days is pretty awesome, because that means life pretty much fucking rules. ANYWAY, the quandary is this: I'm going to have quite a bit of money this Christmas and there are three big items that deserve my money.

1. Zune (The iPod Killer) - $250ish

Pros: Fucking awesome (just google it), sexy, great value, useful, will be widely available
Cons: Probable upgrade next year, I usually just use my PC to listen to music
Wild Card: How many people outside of those tech-savvy will be picking one up?

2. Nintendo Wii + The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - $300ish

Pros: It's Zelda, having another next-gen console, great value, also sexy
Cons: Should be available but not guaranteed, I'm only anticipating first-party titles
Wild Card: That damn Wiimote.

3. Xbox 360 HD-DVD addon - $200

Pros: Less than half the price of standalone HD-DVD players, King Kong bundled with the unit, H fucking D, also sexy
Cons: Beginning my HD-DVD collection (but it has to start sometime)
Wild Card: HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray (We'll see what the market decides.)

I don't know what to do. I guess I'm leaning towards a Wii + Zelda and the HD-DVD addon, but we'll see. I'm also going to need to pick up one or two 360 games that got lost in the shuffle, some movies, clothes, etc.
